My weekend
Nov. 18th, 2002 10:53 amWhat a weekend!!
Saturday got off to a bad start when I decided to re-populate our (newly fitted) kitchen. Decided to get music going first and so moved stereo to the top of the freezer - got an unpleasant squelchy feeling between my toes. Looked down to find myself standing in a pool of (cold) blood. Stood very still for a moment to get to grips with what was happening and realized that it was dripping from the freezer.
So I put down paper and decided to clear the decks a little - I moved th microwave to its new home on top of the conventional oven and then realized that there was some soup in it which was now dripping through the seal on the microwave! So I threw out the soup and put all the innards of the microwave in the sink to soak.
Now to attack the freezer - while going out into the dining room to get the bin bags (their temporary home) I managed to tread on the carpet gripper at the edge of the kitchen (awaiting the new floor) and so managed to add my own blood to the growing pool on the floor.
I emptied the whole freezer into bin bags as I realized that the freezer had been open since Thursday and the (£80 worth) of meat that I bought on Wednesday was now inedible!
Realized that it was now about midday and that I had not eaten since the soup I had on Friday lunchtime. I had deliberately got some quick food to eat (rice and lentils pot thingy which I am rather addicted to) as most of our stuff was still in boxes waiting sorting out after the kitchen fitting but this meant using the microwave, which was in pieces in the sink and the main body needed cleaning out - could I find the cleaning stuff? Not a hope - which lead to the interesting conundrum of:
1) need to eat before going to Tesco's to restock freezer and get cleaning stuff
2) need to use microwave for the easy (and unpacked) food
3) need to clean microwave before using it
4) need to get cleaning stuff from Tesco's before using microwave
5) see 1)
Eventually decided to go to Tesco and get something instantly eatable and cleaning stuff.
So by 2:00 I was ready to start doing the stuff that I had set aside the day to do!!
I did end up sorting lots of stuff out and the kitchen is looking much better and finally properly usable.
Sunday was much better - I cleared up the bedroom and cleaned the bathroom, had a long, long soak in the bath and headed up to Oxford to meet up with A and S at the Mages event. Actually saw lots of people who I have not seen for ages so that was a major bonus!
Went out for food - not where I had intended but good none the less.
Ended up asleep before 20:30!!
Today it is freezing and I am sat here in coat and shivering!
